Stretch marks are visible lines which appear on our skin, usually in the abdominal wall, over the thighs, upper arms, buttocks and breasts as well. They are a cosmetic issue, which can cover a large area of the body. We all know that our skin has three main layers.
Epidermis (the outer layer), Dermis (the middle layer) and Subcutaneous or Hypodermic (the deepest layer).
The stretch marks are formed in the dermis when the connective tissue is stretched beyond the power of its flexibility. As a result of this, the collagen gets weakened and its normal production cycle is hindered and damaged as well. One of the main reasons for stretch marks is usually pregnancy, but there are also some other reasons, like sudden gain or loss in weight, rapid growth, heredity, and stress.
